Concussions & Head Injuries

In today's youth sports concussions and head injuries must be taken seriously.  As part of the ongoing effort to keep our athlete's healthy and safe ENCO (and all registered EPYSA clubs) began requiring that all coaches complete "The Heads Up! Concussion in Youth Sports Training" certification program by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

ENCO coaches will follow the "when in doubt, keep them out" protocol ,whenever there is the possibility that a head injury or concussion has occurred.  We ask that all parents respect the decision of the coach, even if the player says they are fine.  Your child's long term health and well being are far more important than a soccer match.

Parent's should be aware of the signs and risks of concussions as well.  In the event that a coach feels that your son or daughter has possibly received a concussion, we will ask that the player be cleared by a physician prior to returning to play. The five step plan detailed on the fact sheet should be followed before returning to play.
